Back in my college days, my friends live together in a rented apartment. They had a high-speed WiFi. Unlike now, In those days having a WiFi (in rented apartment), was a big deal. And to brag their security skill, they use to set up complex password.
But when, I came over and ask for the WiFi password. None of them could tell the password. Not because they don’t want to share their WiFi but because they won’t remember it. Everyone had configure their respective device on auto connect mode.
But I was always able to get their WiFi password. Even though passwordare stored in hidden form, it’s very easy to see them. How ? Lets find out.
Windows
A quick way to find WiFi password of connected network is by using command prompt. Simply open up the cmd and type in following command.
Don’t forget to replace the WifiName with the name of yourWiFi. And that’s it. The command will bring up different properties of WiFi along with password. Scroll down till you see security setting and under that key content has your password.
However, if are more of a GUI guy, then goto your network and sharing center > click on the WiFi name > a new window will open, select wireless property > security > show password. And that’s it, here is your WiFi password in plain text.
Mac
Things become tougher in Mac, as one needs ‘admin password’ to see WiFi password. Press cmd+space to bring up spotlight and then search for program ‘Keychain Access’. You can manually go there by navigating to your /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.
Here you will see the list of all the WiFi that the Mac has ever connected to. Scroll down the list till you see your WiFi name or use the search bar at the top. Once you see the connected WiFi name, double tap on it > show password > enter the computer’s password and it will show the password.
If you don’t have access to admin password, then there is no way to find password. But there is a workaround, mention in the end of the article.
iOS
Like android, iPhone and iPads also hide WiFi password. But if you are luck enough to lay your hands on jailbreak iPhone then, you can use this free utility called WiFi Passwords (not tested).
If for any reason, above methods didn’t work then you can check the password directly from the router page. So open any web browser from the computer connected to the network. In the address bar, type in ‘router ip’. In most cases it’s 192.168.1.1 but it may differ depending on the router model no.
Next enter the username and password for router. Again this may very form system to system. Ask the owner or try admin as both username and password. Once you successfully login, navigate to wireless setting and there you will find the password.
